Once again, ITSERR – Italian Strengthening of the ESFRI RI RESILIENCE – takes part in the 2025 European Researchers’ Night, with three workshops designed for the general public, taking place in Palermo and Reggio Emilia.

“From Cilice to Silicon: Saints, Popes, Sacred Texts and Artificial Intelligence”
An interactive journey showcasing how Artificial Intelligence is becoming a valuable ally in religious studies:
digital transcription of medieval manuscripts and ancient texts
- automatic translation of historical languages
- semantic analysis of sacred texts
- digital mapping of devotion
The UniPa team will guide participants through technology and spirituality with hands-on activities, surveys, demonstrations, and AI-based interactive games, especially designed to engage younger audiences.

ITSERR will participate with two workshops:
“Convert Me: From Ancient Manuscripts to Digital Characters”
Researchers Laura Righi and Marianna Napolitano will demonstrate, interactively, the process of digitizing and analyzing ancient texts using character recognition software and AI tools. Visitors will discover how manuscripts and printed texts are transformed into digital resources and experiment with games involving texts in multiple languages and scripts: Greek, Latin, and Slavic.

“Religions of the World: Test Your Knowledge, Spot Fake News and Fake Images!”
An interactive workshop to test participants’ knowledge of religions through quizzes and games on Kahoot!, learning how to identify fake news and manipulated images. A fun way to reflect on how much we really know about religious phenomena.
